I am proud to say that music and the business of music has made up my entire professional career. It's no easy ask to dedicate your life to your passion, but resilience and determination has seen me manage to stay in this incredibly rewarding and cut throat industry for my entire working life.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Performing Arts from NASDA in 2002, I went on to a professional performance career as a singer and performing artist. A few years later , after teaching singing as a part time job, I developed SOUNDSTAGE, Nelson's own professional performing arts school which is still in operation as an important part of the local music and performing arts community for the last 15 years. Through my work at SOUNDSTAGE I engaged as a mentor , tutor , examiner, judge and artist both locally and nationally. In 2013 my husband and I relocated to Sydney . My time in Sydney became focused on the business of music, entertainment and events as I begun my next chapter as a talent scout, booking agent and artist manager. Managing artists working all around the world in the corporate and cruise sectors, I was responsible for hundreds of artists and bands bookings from Australia to the USA , Asia , the pacific Islands and Europe, as well as the individual management of artists, projects and events. Having now returned to Nelson, I am excited to be managing Studio Box and also supporting the development of new and emerging artists. Its a dream come true to bring my skills home to this amazing region. I am passionate about helping artists develop their creativity, business and brand. |

I've always had a very strong interest in music across a wide range of genre’s from a young age. However apart from a very brief dalliance in a band for a school talent show, this interest in music didn't translate into anything practical until I turned 44 years old, and decided I was all work and no play and I needed a better balance in my life.
Music was the path I chose to achieve this. I joined the rock band, URBAN, learned to play the bass from scratch and also contributed to the vocals and song writing on the band’s debut album in 2015-16. Old dogs can learn new tricks! The process of making an album proved fascinating not just from a musical perspective but also from a production and promotional aspect. When I had the chance to purchase the Jade Soundtracs 64 recording and mixing desk I saw this as a great way to get into the production and management side of the industry. As a successful business owner I have always got my biggest kick out of providing opportunities for others to achieve their potential, and I see the creation of StudioBox as a natural extension of this inclination. It’s not just about me but something much bigger. I'm intrigued by the diversity of everybody's differing creative processes and outcomes, and I'm learning each day from my musical experiences, whether I'm playing, writing or meeting new people. I'm always looking at the endless potential opportunities out there. |

I initially entered the Audio industry full time, during my years as the Godley Organ Scholar at Christchurch Cathedral, both in studio recording and live sound. I then became the Technician at Blast Studios in Christchurch, and I built an audio company called Sound Houndz. Consequently I spent many years touring with some of New Zealands top bands like Shapeshifter, Opshop, The Feelers, Elemeno P, Shihad, and many more.
It’s satisfying job to ensure we set up each band in a way that allows them to record as productively as possible by correctly selecting and placing microphones, tracking using our Jade Soundtracs 64 desk, and mixing it all down on my long standing software of choice, Protools. I do this by first listening to what people want to achieve, realising each job has unique requirements and then tailoring a recording setup to best suit their sound and desired outcomes. With the musician in mind, I’ve selected a versatile array of gear for the studio to allow us to create professional recordings at competitive prices. I’m not a Producer so I leave the creativity up to the bands, but having a musically trained ear means I can pick up on when things need to be re-worked. Earlier on in 2017 I had the privilege of attending The New Zealand Music Producer Series at Round Head Studio in Auckland run by Greg Haver. It was an invaluable experience to be surrounded by a wealth of knowledge, and it was a fantastic opportunity to gain skills and develop my networks. Having made connections in many facets of the music industry over the years, I can source external services and gear if something extra is required that we don’t offer at Studio Box. I use sound engineering as my way of being a part of the musical experience.
